
MMASS at the Bendigo IntERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF EXPLORATORY MUSIC
As part of MMASS's mission to spread the joy of music analysis, MMASS director Matthew Lorenzon will give a lecture on Samuel Smith's new string quartet Dead Oceans at this year's Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music. The pre-concert lecture will feature live excerpts played by the Argonaut String Quartet.

The second Melbourne Music Analysis Summer School included courses in chromatic harmony (Richard Cohn), general deformation (David Larkin), Schenkerian analysis (Martin Greet), post-tonal analysis (Natalie Williams and Alistair Noble), as well as keynotes on meter (Cohn), post-tonal counterpoint (Williams), musics of the world (Catherine Falk), and the psychology of music (Richard Parncutt). The annual Analysis and Composition keynote was given by Elliott Gyger and the student micro-symposium returned by popular demand. The course also included a performance of the Keith Humble string trio recently published by Astra Music Publishing.
Winter School: La Mer with Roy Howat

A day-long intensive with Dr Roy Howat on Debussy's La Mer. The analysis of proportion in La Mer and other works by Debussy and his contemporaries fed into discussions of critical editing and performance.

The first MMASS was supported by a successful crowdfunding campaign, the Musicological Society of Australia, and the inaugural MMASS patron, Dr Michael Hannan. The course covered meter (Richard Cohn), sonata deformation (David Larkin), Schenkerian analysis (Martin Greet), and post-tonal analysis (Alistair Noble). Keynotes included form in Schubert and Liszt (Alan Davison), the music of Keith Humble (Alan Walker), analysis and composition (Elliott Gyger), and performance analysis (Michael Hooper).
